Operations

• Feedlots: Karan Beef operates several feedlots, with the largest one located at Heidelberg, which is the largest feedlot in the world, covering 2,330 hectares and accommodating 145,000 head of cattle. Other feedlots are located at Nigel and Albert Falls.
• Feedmill: The feedmill at Heidelberg is one of the most modern and largest of its kind globally, producing up to 1,740 tons of mixed feed daily. The feed recipes are scientifically formulated using locally sourced ingredients with no animal by-products.
• Cattle Backgrounding: The Nigel farm is used for cattle backgrounding, where calves are left to graze and receive balanced rations for supplementation before entering the feedlots.

Facilities and Capabilities

• Abattoir: Karan Beef has a state-of-the-art abattoir that can process 2,040 head of cattle every day.
• Deboning Plant: The deboning plant is equipped to process up to 200 tons a day.
• Export Capabilities: Karan Beef is certified to export to various countries including China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Maldives, as well as across Africa.

Karan Beef holds several quality certifications including FSSC 22000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, HACCP, and ISO 22000.

Distribution and Sales

The company has a distribution centre in Johannesburg City Deep, making it the largest, fully integrated beef production organisation in Africa.
