The Entomological Society of Southern Africa, established on October 14, 1937, is a premier scientific organization aimed at promoting entomology throughout Africa. It serves as a crucial platform for facilitating communication among entomologists.
The society is renowned for its key publication, “African Entomology,” a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on various aspects of entomology, especially within the African context. The journal succeeded the “Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa” in 1993. Additionally, they produce “Congress Proceedings” biennially and have published specialized books like “Insects of cultivated plants and natural pastures in southern Africa.”
To foster collaboration and communication among entomologists, the society organizes biennial congresses. The 24th Congress is scheduled from July 8 to July 11, 2025, at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.
Highlighting socially impactful research, the society has published special issues such as the “African Entomology Special Issue: Biological Control of Invasive Alien Plants in South Africa (2011-2020).” This issue provides a comprehensive review of the biological control of invasive plants across South Africa over the past decade.
Dedicated to inclusivity, the society welcomes both professional and amateur entomologists to join and participate in its activities and publications, ensuring a broad spectrum of engagement within the field.
For inquiries or orders regarding publications, members and interested parties are encouraged to communicate via the society’s official channels, with payments for publications processed through bank transfers.
